Roman houses

Until the Romans founded Narbonne, the oppidum (hill fort) of Ensérune was the most important settlement in the Languedoc. There were three phases: a simple settlement in the sixth and fifth centuries; a real town with walls and many trade contacts; and – after a violent destruction during the Second Punic War – a Roman town in the second and first centuries, which was eclipsed by Narbonne.
